Touch of Finland was founded in 1981 by my parents and grandparents. Dad had lost his job as a teacher when the nearby Republic mine closed that year. My Grandma had worked at a previous store called Finn Kraft. It was purchased by my family and the name changed to Touch of Finland to give the many Finns located within the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a touch of home.
A few years later Mom and Dad bought out Grandpa and Grandma and became the sole owners. My sisters and I grew up in the store rooms while Mom and Dad would work to build the business. Over the years they changed the product mix to include things like collectibles, kitchen items and crystal but we have always stayed true to our Finnish roots.
In 1995 after college I began to work with my Dad and have since taken over the store. In 2000 we opened our first web site touchoffinland.com with a few items. Today we boast an expansive selection of Finnish products and have become one of the largest online US retailers of Finnish gifts. I would like to thank you for supporting a three generation family business for almost 40 years!
Kiitos (Thanks you),
