Peat works best with warmth. Heat opens the pores and lets the minerals do their work, and it makes the mask easy to rinse away. A sauna is the traditional setting, but a hot shower does the same job.

How to use

Peat works best on warm, damp skin in a humid room, so it doesn't dry out while it works. A sauna is traditional. A bathroom after a hot shower works too.

1. Cleanse first and leave skin damp.
2. Apply an even layer to the face, and work it through damp hair if you're treating that as well.
3. Leave on five to ten minutes, keeping the room warm and steamy. If the peat starts to dry, mist or splash with warm water.
4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Skip soap and shampoo, and let the peat rinse clean on its own.

A word from experience: peat stains. Protect your surfaces—lay a towel down before you sit, and keep it away from light-colored fabrics and clothing.
