The Valma Earrings hang a single round maple bead, nearly three-quarters of an inch across and hand-dyed a deep red, from the base of a thick polished hoop. Each pair drops 1.75 inches. The hoop is nickel-free plated brass and closes with a post and hinged catch, so there is no wire to thread and nothing to lose. The bead is turned truly round, with no visible glue line or flat spot where it meets its fitting — the standard the workshop holds on everything it sends out. A bead this size usually brings weight with it. This one does not, because it is wood, and the pair stays comfortable from afternoon into a long evening.
