The village of Kierinki, in northern Finland, is where Janne Marttiini first put hammer to steel — the birthplace of a knife-making tradition now nearly a century old. The Kierinki Knife takes its name from that village and carries the weight of that history in every detail: forged carbon steel, layered natural wood, and a sheath worked in gold that echoes the very texture of the blade it protects.

The 4.3-inch blade is shaped from 80CrV2 carbon steel, forged and finished with the hammer-worked surface left intact — dark and slightly uneven across the flat, like cooled iron, with a sharp, polished bevel running along the cutting edge. At HRC 59.5, the steel holds an exceptional edge through demanding use. Carbon steel requires a little more attention than stainless — dry it after use, apply a light oil occasionally — and will develop a natural patina over time that only deepens its character.

The handle is built from two materials in deliberate contrast: thermally treated birch at the top and bottom, deep and dark, bracketing a central band of pale, swirling curly birch. The result is a handle that looks composed, almost architectural, and sits comfortably in the hand. The deep burgundy leather sheath is embossed with a gold foil pattern of interlocking forms that mirrors the forged texture of the blade — a level of craft coherence that marks this knife as something beyond purely functional.
