Finnish illustrator and graphic designer Saara Obele first came to Lapuan Kankurit as an Aalto University student. Her bold, expressive graphic style and deep feel for Finnish nature made her an immediate fit for the brand — and the Pihapuu wool blanket is among her most striking work. Pihapuu means yard tree in Finnish, and the pattern reflects exactly that: the familiar shapes of leaves and plump berries that belong to the Finnish domestic landscape, rendered in Obele's signature style — large, confident, and full of warmth.
In grey, honey, and black, the Pihapuu blanket has an energy that most blankets don't. The bold botanical pattern is jacquard-woven directly into the fabric at Lapuan Kankurit's mill in Lapua, and the reverse side inverts the colorway to a dark ground — making it as interesting from either side.
Made from a blend of merino wool and organic cotton, the Pihapuu Finnish blanket is soft, lightweight, and comfortable year-round — equally at home draped over a sofa, taken on a summer picnic, or wrapped around your shoulders on a cool evening. At 53 by nearly 71 inches, it's a generous size.
