Serve a wedge of cheese with rye crackers, line up cinnamon buns beside the coffee, or keep earrings and a watch together on a bedside table. The iittala Taika White Rectangle Plate is made of vitro porcelain, shallow and low-sided, with the illustration printed across the face and the underside left plain.
Taika is Finnish for magic, and the pattern has been on tables since Klaus Haapaniemi drew it in 2007. Here they keep watch from slim trees hung with berries and blossom, a long-necked fox standing among the trunks below, the whole scene drawn in soft blues, greys and warm browns against white. The layers surface a few at a time rather than all at once.
At 9.5 by 4.75 inches it works on a coffee table, a nightstand, or a small buffet, and it's cleared for the freezer, microwave, oven and dishwasher. The pale ground makes it an easy Finnish design gift for a wedding or a housewarming.
