Lotta Maija drew the Tuulahdus pattern on a windy day at a summer cottage, watching an easterly wind push unusually large waves onto the shore while the grass and flowers in the yard swayed back and forth. The Finnish name means "breeze," and the design keeps that sense of movement. Here it runs in rose and red across a folding shopping bag. The Marimekko Tuulahdus Smartbag measures 16 by 14 inches with 26-inch handles that clear the shoulder comfortably, and the whole bag folds away into its own inside pocket so it can live in a coat pocket or a glovebox until it is needed. Made from recycled polyester, it is light, strong and endlessly reusable.
