Merino is the reason these work in any season: it warms when it's cold, breathes when it isn't, and pulls moisture off the skin so feet stay dry through a long day. It's naturally odor-resistant, so these don't need washing after every wear, and it's soft against the skin without the itch of ordinary wool. Polyamide is blended through the yarn to reinforce the heel and toe, the two places socks give out first. The top seam lies flat rather than raised, so there's no pressure line across the instep.
