Aino-Maija Metsola's Pieni Kurre print is large enough that a single mitt catches only part of it: broad navy and teal leaves, a sweep of a squirrel's dotted brown tail, an acorn or two, each motif cropped where the fabric was cut and stitched. The effect is closer to a detail of a painting than a tidy repeat, and it falls differently on every mitt. Printed in Helsinki onto durable cotton and quilted over a padded polyester filling, the Marimekko Pieni Kurre Oven Mitten shields hands and wrists from contact heat when you are lifting a hot tray or reaching across a burner. It measures 12 inches long, and a hanging loop at the open end keeps the print on show beside the range.
