The Marttiini Pailakka takes its name from the Finnish word for an untamed male reindeer — and the knife lives up to it. Rooted in the craft traditions of northern Finland, it pairs a classic Finnish blade profile with handle materials drawn straight from the Arctic landscape.
The 4.33-inch stainless steel blade is built for low-maintenance reliability. This steel resists corrosion and resharpens easily, making it practical for everyday outdoor tasks without demanding careful upkeep. The blade follows the lynx profile, developed by founder Janne Marttiini in the 1930s — defined by its slightly upturned tip, making it an excellent reliable tool for wilderness trips. A blood groove runs the length of the blade — a channel cut into the steel that reduces weight without sacrificing strength.
The handle combines two natural materials — Finnish curly birch for the main grip and genuine reindeer antler bone at the pommel — a pairing deeply rooted in northern Finnish tradition. The curly birch is laser-etched with a running reindeer motif that wraps the handle, tying the knife's name and character together in a single detail. No two handles are alike, between the natural variation of the birch grain and the organic character of the antler.
The dark brown leather sheath is built for belt carry and wears well over time. A meaningful knife for collectors, wilderness enthusiasts, and anyone drawn to the craft traditions of northern Finland.
